Discipleship

How do we go about making and maturing disciples of Jesus?

At Westosha Lakes Church, we orient all of our ministries around Jesus’ command to “make disciples” (Matthew 28:19). We do this by engaging those in our community who do not yet know Jesus, as well as helping those who do to live in obedience to all that he has commanded. The “Receive-Belong-Serve” information below highlights what we believe to be healthy steps towards spiritual growth.

Receive

GOAL: To become more like Jesus in your thoughts, emotions, and actions (Deuteronomy 6:5, 2 Corinthians 3:18)

This happens by:

  • Trusting Jesus to save you from your sin (John 1:12, 3:16)
  • Prioritizing weekly worship services in your life (Hebrews 10:24–25)
  • Practicing spiritual disciplines on a daily basis (Acts 2:42)
  • Actively seeking resources to grow in your understanding of God (Hosea 6:3; 2 Timothy 2:15)

Belong

GOAL: Become so deeply connected with other believers that they become family (John 13:35, Matthew 12:48-50)

This happens by:

  • Becoming a member of Westosha Lakes Church (1 Corinthians 12:12–14; Hebrews 13:17)
  • Joining a Small Group (Acts 2:42)
  • Building strong Christian friendships to experience true fellowship (Colossians 3:12-17; Philippians 1:7)
  • Pursuing 1-on-1 discipling relationships (2 Timothy 2:1–2)

Serve

GOAL: To serve God and others in all of life so people can see Jesus in you (Matthew 5:14–16; 1 Peter 2:12)

This happens by:

  • Committing to serve Jesus with your time, treasures, & talents (Matthew 16:24; Romans 12:1)
  • Serving regularly at home, work, & church (Galatians 5:13; 1 Peter 4:10)
  • Giving financially to support your church, missionaries, & people in need (2 Corinthians 9:7)
  • Sharing your faith and making disciples (Matthew 28:19–20; 1 Peter 3:15)
